God's Promise of Health & Healing

We read many testimonies in the Bible of Jesus healing the sick, casting out demons, and forgiving sin. But does Jesus still heal today? The Bible assures us that we can be healed in our present time, "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever," Hebrews 13:8. His working of healing, binding up broken hearts, and forgiving sin still goes forward.

God says, "If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I [am] the LORD that healeth thee,” Exodus 15:26.

In this promise, God has four things he would have us do to prevent ourselves from becoming sick. The first thing is to diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God. Diligently is defined as doing something in a way that shows care and conscientiousness in one's work or duties. So we are to take care and carefully listen to the word of God. The next thing God would have us do after carefully listening is to do that which is right and obey his laws. God says give ear to his commandments. That means to listen with an obedient ear. Not just physically hearing with our ears but doing those things we hear from the word of God. Then God admonishes us to keep all his statues.   God's statutes are His mandates, precepts, and rules.

1 John 5:3 tells us, "For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. There is happiness in keeping the Law of God. Health is bound up in obedience.

Another promise of God for health is most precious, "Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth ALL thine iniquities; who healeth ALL thy diseases,” Psalms 103:2,3. We are to be thankful to God for His blessings. Even though most of the sicknesses we have, we have brought upon ourselves through wrong living and poor eating habits, God promises forgiveness and healing. God forgives ALL of our iniquities. Iniquity is known; chosen sin. When we commit iniquity, we know we are doing wrong and choose to do so anyway.

But God's promise means that he will even forgive that type of sin. That means we can't do anything so wrong that God will not forgive us. And God says that He heals ALL of our diseases. So there is no illness too complex for God to eradicate. What we must do to take advantage of these promises is to believe in God and obey Him. God has given us eight health laws; if obeyed, healing and healing are promised.

These promises were written in Old Testament times, and we are not literal Jews. Can we lawfully claim God's promises? All the covenant promises were made to Abraham. The Jews knew that they were Abraham’s family members and entitle to all the promises. They defended themselves with this answer in John 8:33 when Jesus said they were in bondage, they replied, “We be Abraham's seed.”

This is what God says concerning his people today, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.  And if ye [be] Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise,” Galatians 3:28. If we are heir to the promises, we are also heir to meet the requirements. There is no getting around it. We must obey God for a healthy physical life and for eternal life.

Leviticus Chapter 11 God gives us a list of foods we can and cannot eat. Many excuse themselves, saying Heaven is not in meat and drink.  Yet others say just pray over your food, but God says, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death,” Proverbs 14:12. It’s decision time. Adam and Eve were cast out of paradise because of their food choice. The real problem is not the food, it’s disobeying God’s Word. Thou shall not eat! Obey God's health laws and receive his promise of health and healing!
